Kao Corporation of Japan,
the parent company of Pilipinas Kao, was
established in 1887 as a small soap-making
business in Japan. But through its years
of sincere dedication
to satisfy its consumer needs,
Kao has flourished and grown into a multi-billion
dollar company. By 2005, Kao’s sales
net turn-over grew to US$ 8.7 Billion. Presently,
Kao is one of the leading household manufacturer
and distributor of daily-use household products
such as soaps and detergents, cosmetics,
etc. that all contribute to consumers' lives
by promoting cleanliness, health and beauty.
In fact, Kao had been cited as one of the
world's admired leaders in this field (Fortune
Magazine, 1998).
Aside from household products, Kao also
produces high quality specialty chemicals.
Its product portfolio includes oleochemicals
and various surfactants, fatty chemicals,
specialty chemicals, edible oils and food
additives. Kao's growing global network
encompasses
affiliates and subsidiaries
in 25 countries all over the world including
Philippines.
Rationale for the Establishment of Cocochemical
Complex in the Philippines In
accordance with the philosophy of Kao Corporation and mission
to the Filipino people, Dr. Maruta, former Chairman of Kao,
believed the Philippines, being the biggest exporter of coconut
oil worldwide, had to pursue a coconut industrialization program
that would make full utilization of its indigenous materials
and target the coconut farmers as the program's direct beneficiaries.
Coconut oil, which is one of the materials used for Kao products, will not be exhausted as long as there is abundant sunlight, air, water and good soil. On a long-term basis, coconut is a more reliable raw material in producing many intermediate chemicals than petroleum which should be conserved and appropriated to more essential applications. Pilipinas Kao Today
In its early stage of operation, Pilipinas Kao manufactured
fatty alcohols exclusively for Kao Japan's consumer products.
After a series of expansions and with the diligence of its
employees, Pilipinas Kao has extended its presence all over
the world. PKI’s markets now include US, Europe, the
African region, the Middle East and Asia, our base market.
In line with the company’s vision to provide more livelihood
to the community and additional dollar earnings to the country,
PKI is registered under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority
or PEZA. Having been granted business-friendly PEZA-initiated
incentive programs, Pilipinas Kao is further encouraged to
become competitive in the international oleochemical market
arena. |
